The newer of the two campgrounds operated by the City, Thompson's West End Park is located at the foot of Eighth Avenue West. Camping opportunities at the park are provided by 51 RV and tent sites off paved access roads. Thompson's West End Park offers a variety of recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike. The park offers campers mostly sunny sites as an alternative to the heavily shaded Memorial Park Campground North of town. Campsites at West End Park are more suitable to large recreational vehicles and motor homes and is more suitable for campers with large vehicles. Seventeen seasonal camping sites are permitted at West End Park. All sites have a view of Chequamegon Bay. The campground is provided with: * Paved Access Roads * Sanitary Dump Station * Flush Toilets * Unguarded Swimming Beach * Playground * Open play area * Pay Showers * Electric Service * Wonderful Tasting Artesian Water * Fishing Pier * Shoreline Fishing * Boat Launch ($5 fee charged) Cable TV is provided to all sites with electrical hookups.
For a Class A with a tow vehicle I recommend not even pulling in, as there is no turnaround. Even without toad, it would be tight. Smaller class B's, C's and tent trailers would be fine, but not a very nice campground and very dusty. Managers were friendly, smiley but very hard to understand. We could not stay here.
5% seasonal with about 13 campsites,6 pull throughs and the rest back-ins. Trees on both sides, so only a couple work good with slides, but length is not a problem. Located on Leech Lake with nice covered dockage. The pool is heated and warm. Very friendly owners and seasonal people. Campground is very clean and well maintained. Would definitely stay here again!
Great City of Cloquet campground on St' Louis River with walking trails, catfishing, boat launch and within walking distance to quaint shops and parks. The historical Northeastern Hotel/Bar adjacent to the campground was featured in the movie "Iron Will". There is a dump station available for arrival or leaving. If not staying it is $5.00 to dump. This park is very clean and pretty, located on Dunlap Island. Access is off of Highway 33, head West on Cloquet Avenue and follow the road that parallels the bridges.
Excellent park with a lot of activities. Staff is very friendly. Sites are clean and easy access. We received our membership when we purchased our coach at Lazy Days. It was a great move for us because I cannot think of any negatives while staying here. It is within 6 miles of Disney and a lot of businesses close by.
If you like "Old Florida" camping and a fun alternative to resort camping, you will really enjoy this park. It's like going back in time to the 60s', no internet, etc. There is canoe rental, wonderful nature trails with no bugs and a very good chance of getting a picture of an alligator. They are there if you watch for them. Only bugs were found by some fisherman that received some no-see-um bites while fishing near dusk. A fantastic swimming pool that is still down because of broken pump unfortunately. Staff is very friendly and park is exceptionally clean, there is a cafe and gift shop on site, but you are 7 to 10 miles from most services, so need to have groceries on hand.
Nice clean park with friendly staff and guests. Sites are very accessible, great warm swimming pool and owners have been putting in new more shaded sites in the new section of the park. Did not participate in the Saturday night bluegrass or other activities. This is a smaller quiet mom and pop park with less activity than resorts, and there are not any no-see-ums like we found in two resort parks in Crystal River. Would stay again. We received discounts, so lower rate than normal.
A great campground, all sites very roomy and over 90% will have enough room for large motor homes & fifth wheels/trailers. Only problem we had was with Tengo internet service, paid for a month, only worked 10% or less of the time. Tengo would not respond to ours or our Canadian friends e-mails. This was only issue we had while staying here, otherwise great facilities and manager. Road noise from freeway was not that bad where we were, if you are not happy, they are very gracious and will assign you another if available. We stayed at a large discount because of our Thousand Trails membership.
Park is very friendly and has been making some positive changes for 2010. Some sites on the south side have freeway noise, we did not feel it was that bad, but others have asked to be put into another site where it is quieter. When room is available, management will honor the request. We would have rated this park a 10, except for this reason.
One of our favorite places to stay. Friendly people and a nice quieter park that is nicely located between the two coasts. Their is a new manager and changes happening, so hopefully the change is for the better. Most if not all of the sites are back-in, but very large and have not had a problem. We have enjoyed the walking trails by the river and always watch for the turtles, usually can spot an alligator.
Park is very clean, people are very friendly and very accessible to Sanibel/Captiva, beaches and businesses. We never did see management as it was Thanksgiving. Our site was so tight on a narrow road, other RV owners had to move cars and guide us in because of trees and roots even though we pulled in forward. Checked out Siesta Bay and Indian Creek while here, because of the ease of getting into their sites, would choose them next time. In fairness to Groves, some of the other sites are not as tight. If we had a smaller B or C motorhome, it would have been much more accessible.
